— Hobbs, NM – The University of the Southwest has been named to the top 10 online master’s in counseling list, receiving the #2 spot in the www.thebestcolleges.org
ranking. Only one other institution ranked higher than the USW in the poll as the institution from southeastern New Mexico jumped two spots from #4 in the previous rankings.
Counselors are in high demand. According to the U.S. Bureau of Labor Statistics, employment opportunities for licensed professional counselors in every area of specialty are expected to grow at a faster than average rate over the next several years as job openings exceed the number of students graduating from counseling degree programs. Opportunities in certain counseling specialties such as substance abuse and behavioral disorders are expected to grow at a much higher than average rate.
The University of the Southwest’s School Counseling program focuses on the relations and interactions between students and their school environment with the expressed purpose of reducing the effect of environmental and institutional barriers that impede student academic success. The profession fosters conditions that ensure educational equity, access, and academic success for all students P-12.
These rankings of the top online schools offering masters in counseling degrees are based on publicly available data evaluated according to several different criteria, including market reputation, accreditation, student satisfaction, ratio of students to instructors, and tuition. All schools in the rankings are regionally accredited, the highest form of accreditation a school can achieve.
