USW participates in Quality of Life meeting
(Hobbs, NM – Oct 17) Lea County, City of Hobbs, Hobbs Municipal Schools, New Mexico Junior College, University of the Southwest, and J.F Maddox Foundation met on Oct. 17 in an unprecedented collaboration to identify needs in the community, establish high quality recreational assets for all citizens of the county, investigate equitable cost sharing, avoid duplication, and enhance county-wide access to centralized facilities.
Dr. Gary Dill has been an active participant on the collaborative planning committee that prepared for this historic event. “I have been honored to represent University of the Southwest in these historic conversations. USW students, faculty, and staff will benefit greatly from these initiatives.”
Quality of life facilities will attract and help retain skilled labor in the community. Some of the projects already underway are an indoor equestrian facility, upgrading the public golf course (Ocotillo Community Links), enhancing parks in all county communities, enhancing the Lea County Event Center and the Lea County Fairground, building a new Boys & Girls Club and creating a multi-generational facility.
The entities will discuss cost and revenue sharing initiatives for the maintenance of the facilities and strive to develop projects where residents from the entire county can access them.
