USW welcomes new Dean of Students/Director of Athletics
(Nov 12, 2013) Hobbs, NM—University of the Southwest recently welcomed new Dean of Students and Director of Athletics, William (Bill) Weidner. Weidner has officially started his new position and is making the transition from Florida to Hobbs. USW President Gary Dill enthusiastically made the announcement to the campus community emphasizing that, “Bill Weidner is a very talented professional who is also a servant leader. Bill fully embraces our university’s mission and will fit well at USW.”
Weidner received his undergraduate degree from Springfield College and his Master’s degree from Stanford University. He has over 27 years of experience in intercollegiate athletics as an administrator and coach, including having served as the Director of Athletics at three institutions; Ashland University, the University of Texas Pan American and Weber State University.
In addition, Weidner was Deputy Athletics Director at the University of Central Florida and at the University of San Francisco. He also served as Assistant Athletic Director at Southern Methodist University, as well as on the football coaching staffs at Stanford University, Ohio State University, Murray State University, Southern Connecticut State University and the University of New Haven.
Weidner stated, “I am very appreciative of having been granted the opportunity to serve University of the Southwest as its Dean of Students and Director of Athletics. As the campus community, local community and Mustang alumni join together in order to lay a solid foundation upon which to build future successes in both the academic and athletic arenas, I look forward to assisting with the ongoing team effort that is currently in motion at USW with great enthusiasm.”
