Waco, TX – The Red River Athletic Conference (RRAC) has announced the Grade Point Average (GPA) Awards for the 2013-14 academic year. The Red River Athletic Conference GPA Awards recognize the member institutions and their student-athletes who excelled academically in the classroom during the 2013-14 academic year. The University of the Southwest Athletic Program was well represented as the Mustang Athletic Program earned a ranking as one of the premier athletic programs within the 15 member RRAC for academic performance. The USW Mustangs placed third overall in the conference for GPA.  A total of 69 student-athletes from University of the Southwest (USW) have been recognized by the award. This was an increase from the 2012-13 school year in which the Mustangs placed 67 student-athletes on the list and came in fourth in the conference for overall GPA.

“The University of the Southwest and the Mustang Athletic Program are committed to student-athlete achievement in both the academic and athletic arenas”, stated USW Vice President for Advancement and Director of Athletics William Weidner. “This recognition from the Conference acknowledges that USW Athletics has earned a place among the premier athletic programs within the RRAC for academic performance. On behalf of USW and our athletic department, I want to commend our student-athletes for their outstanding academic achievements. It’s a great time to be a Mustang!”

USW was back to back RRAC GPA Champions in the 2010-11 and 2011-12 academic years. During those two years USW placed a total of 179 student-athletes on the GPA award list. Member schools submit the cumulative grade-point average of all student-athletes competing in RRAC-sanctioned sports for the most recent academic year. Although the USW Men’s and Women’s Tennis programs achieved national recognition as 2013-14 NAIA Scholar Teams, their stellar academic performances were not included within the RRAC GPA Award listing as the RRAC did not officially sponsor the sport of Tennis during the 2013-14 academic year.

Below is a list of all USW student-athletes that were recognized by the RRAC for their outstanding academic achievements for the 2013-14 academic year.
